KIDNEY REPORT OCTOBER 21, 2007

The news is that my surgery is scheduled for October 22. But it will not be as bad as expected. He is not planning any big muscle cutting. Just probing with cameras, etc from above and below. He thinks the tube will go up even though it would not go down.

This tube was inserted in the spring to drain of fragments of stone that got splintered off or perhaps dissolved. But he left it in too long and it would not come out last month when he tried.

He does not expect me to go on dialysis So that is a big relief.

We were disappointed to hear that my left kidney seems to be lost. We had been hoping that after the right kidney was behaving, they could start on the left. The doc said that there was little chance of the left kidney every functioning again.

When I say *Thank you* for praying for me, it seems like so little. So I sometimes say, *Thank you very much*. This of course does not express what I want to say, either. Please know that we really appreciate it.

Tim Bass Goes Home

Here is the notice that appeared in the Harding Alumin news.

Timothy Brian Bass (‘78), 52, of Salisbury went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, September 20, 2007. He was at home surrounded by his loving, devoted wife, Anne Marie (‘80), and his two beloved sons, Brian Samuel Bass and Stephen Paul Bass, his caring mother-in-law Virginia A. Wright, and dear family friends.
Tim, the beloved son of Samuel and Jane Bass of Michigan , fought a courageous battle with cancer. When he learned the cancer was incurable, he said he would just spend what time he had left working for the Lord, and he did just that. He was known for his love of people of all ages, races, economic status, and his ability to warm their hearts with his big hugs and laughter.

Tim is also survived by other loving family members; his sister, Cheryl Frost, and her husband, Mark, of Michigan; his sister, Teresa Bass, of California; his nephew, Alan Frost, and his wife, Sheila, of Illinois; and his niece, Caren George, and her husband, Jason, and their daughter Maizie of Texas.
Born in Lansing , Michigan in 1955, Tim graduated from Okemos High School where he starred in football and basketball. He was awarded a full scholarship to attend Harding University majoring in Bible and Science, later obtaining a Master’s Degree in Education Administration. He spent his career in the field of education where he served as principal, vice principal, and teacher in schools in Michigan , Virginia , and Maryland . He served fourteen years in Wicomico County schools, with his most recent position being a science teacher at Mardela High School . He was also co-owner, with his wife, of Counseling Associates, a group counseling practice with offices in Salisbury and Berlin . Owning this business fulfilled a life long dream that Tim and his wife shared, to have their own business and to pool their talents together to serve the community.

Known as the “gentle giant,” Tim served as an Elder at Community Christian Church in Salisbury , made two mission trips to India to serve at a charity hospital, and often filled in as a preacher at numerous churches. He had an outstanding bass voice and was known for breaking out in joyous song almost anywhere. He enjoyed working with and building computers, boating, playing games (especially with his sons), and mentoring and encouraging young people whenever given the opportunity. He took great joy in “adopting” several families that he loved just as his family members by birth.
Tim would want his church family, friends, relatives, and neighbors to know how much the appreciated their love, prayers, and support during his battle with cancer. He never wavered to his devotion to the Lord and remained strong and uncomplaining despite his pain. He asked that we not remain sorrowful but celebrate his moving on to his reward.

A celebration of his remarkable life will be held at Community Christian Church, Culver Road off of Nanticoke Road in Salisbury , Maryland at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25th. Visitation will be Monday, September 24th at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road in Salisbury , MD from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. If anyone desires to honor Tim with a memorial gift, a Tim Bass scholarship fund has been established at Children’s Outreach,
Inc., P.O. Box 10509, Detroit, MI 48210 (a program for the care and education of inner city children in Tim’s home state of Michigan and administered by his sister, Cheryl). Anne, Brian, and Stephen Bass live in Salisbury , MD 21801 .

JUST FOR TODAY

Just for Today

Just for today, I will take the initiative in doing right.
I will seek out an opportunity to serve.
I will not simply react, or even respond.
I will initiate good works.

I will begin a project to help the poor,
Whether across the ocean or across the hall.
I will move to right a wrong that does not damge me.

I will imitate Father by reaching out in love to those who can in no way help me.

I will bend over to pick up trash I did not drop.
I will buy a loaf of bread for a neighbor without being asked.

When gossip starts,
I will stand up for the dignity of an absent colleague.

So much has been given to me,
So many of my sins forgiven,
So much free air, free water, so much kindness, so much encouragement.
That today I will be a blessing to others, for no particular reason.
And without thought of what I will get out of it.

MY MONDAYS

My week

Monday
4 pm
Four lower elementary school students
Let’s Go 2
They are delightful. Mi tends to be shy and quiet, but she is bright. K’s parents are difficult, so we have to really be on our toes. A and K compete for Teacher’s affection. Ma just does his studying in a pretty workman-like manner. They want to learn and have fun!

5 pm free

6 pm Two jr. hi. girls
Let’s Go 5 Both smart and angelic. M loves English, life, and shopping. H is a little less confident. We have started reading Narnia while we wait for easier readers to come.

7 pm Three 5th and 6th grade girls.
Let’s Go 4, but they can’t read very well, so we are also doing Phonics 2. They want to have fun, but will also work hard. They prefer to study on the rug at the kotatsu, so we usually do, unless I am very tired or very stiff. Each class we start with Phonics and proceed as long as there is unanimous consent to do the next page. N remains a mystery to me, but I love them all.

8 pm Bible class
Mr. and Mrs. Y have been studying for a long time. We are doing the WBS “God Has Spoken” booklet. It is a little hard, but I think they get it. They are a lovely couple. I don’t know what God is doing with them, but I am thankful they keep coming.
